"Fantastic event! This was my first time taking a karate class ever and I expected it to be super intense, which it was but in a beginner friendly type of way. The instructors were very nice and briefly explained to us the importance of the fundamentals of karate. Everything in the teaching has a purpose which was demonstrated to us. The workout is intense but I'm sure if consistent with taking the course you'll have rock hard abs and be able to defend yourself from the world. Definitely considering giving it another shot (I need the abs lol)."
"I really appreciated the opportunity to be able to attend this event. I had never tried Karate before so I was very happy when I saw this event. We did a great workout at this place. They showed us the basic Karate moves and also taught us some self defense moves. The instructors were genuinely interested in getting us more fit and were very enthusiastic and wise about Karate. You could tell that they had years of experience. They have private classes as well as group classes and the prices are very reasonable. Sensei Richard will even work with you on schedule and price if you are very interested. All in all, I had a good experience."
"The trainers/instructors Sensei Richard Chapman, Tony Chapman and Tyree were very helpful and cooperative in teaching us new methods of defense. I have thoroughly enjoyed the class and had a great workout. The Best Dojo might be in and around Atlanta, keeping the tradition of Sensei Cofield and Sensei Lapuppet Alive. A first-rate school with excellent instructors and a flexible schedules. Real world self defense applications combined with traditional Japanese Shotokan Karate training methods. Need to try this if you are into or like martial arts."
"Sensei Richard Chapman is the owner of Tong Dojo, and he has been studying karate for over 50 years. His son Tony and another gentleman named Tyree led the class. The dojo has been in the current location for 7 years and was on Piedmont Road before relocating to Cheshire Bridge/Faulkner Road. It's truly a family business; Tony's daughter Scarlett, just under 2 years old, was the first one to welcome me to the dojo ... I guess I half-expected a non-sweaty class, but that was far from the truth. In addition to learning punching and kicking, we went through tabata-style rounds of classic exercises such as push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, and leg lifts. We were all huffing and puffing after that. Who knew cat food containers filled with gravel made challenging weights? Karate is certainly not the sort of sport you can just pick up instantly but takes time to learn and promotes health, strength, and self-discipline. We concluded with a fantastic demo of applied karate courtesy of Tony and Tyree. Wouldn't want to mess with these guys!"
"Sensei Richard Chapman teaches Shotokan Karate which is a Japanese style karate. Sensei Richard, Tony, and Tyree really put us all to work during this class! I felt like the intensity of a good workout was still there, but I could've gone with more karate and self defense lessons. I've never been to a karate class, but I can understand why there were so many other workouts involved because karate requires a lot of focus and endurance as well and you really do have to be physically fit in order to endure the training. I love how everyone from the staff and other students (aside from us yelpers) really treated each other and us like family."
"Richard, Tony, Tim and Tyree were all very friendly and welcoming. This is my first time visiting this Dojo and I am seriously considering going back. The technique that Tony and Tyree demonstrate at the end of our work out session was very interesting and informative that I seriously think will benefit me in the long term in regards to self defense. Throughout our one hour session, awareness of surroundings were constantly brought up and I can't agree more. Being aware of my surroundings could be life or death some times and knowing Karate wouldn't hurt right? Overall, I walked away from this Karate class being more informed on the art of Shotokan Karate and grateful for the basics that I learned and is seriously consider joining."

"Been training here for 5 months and it has been life changing. I'm in the best physical shape I've seen in 10 years. The people here are outstanding and I've made some good friends. The training will teach you real world applications and help you understand how to defend yourself. Love this place!"
"I visited a few schools around town before I chose this one. The family-friendly atmosphere, the attention to technique and the use of real life examples sets this Dojo apart from all the others I've visited. Sansei Chapman really made me feel at home since my first lesson, respecting my limits (I had 2 back surgeries) but pushing me to improve my technique and physical conditioning. In addition to that, we practice real traditional Karate, rather than the "gym" version you see in a lot of other places. I have been training there for almost 2 years and strongly recommend for beginners and advanced students alike. I recently enrolled my 10yo daughter, who also loves the kids classes. Two thumbs up!!!"
"This is a very traditional dojo, and a great place to learn Shotokan in much the same way as the founder taught it. Sensei Chapman will push you in a very positive way, and is a very inspiring motivator. I've been there for about four years, and love it. This isn't a belt factory or part of today's mma fad. This is a place to learn an art that was created from centuries-old no-rules systems to protect farmers from brigands in life and death situations. This also isn't a testosterone-filled boys club. It's a great place for men, women, and children of all ages to all feel valued while advancing in their personal journey."
